Message from Karen

Greetings and Welcome!

I'm excited to be offering Modern Dance for children, teens, professionals and adults.

Education in the Art of Dance with a strong foundation in technique prepares students for a career in dance. Did you know that the majority of college dance programs are Modern Dance based? That said, I love working with students of all abilities and aspirations and find great joy in seeing each and every student succeed at their own level. We get it done...AND we have fun!

Classes are now at the new Performing Arts Center, 4478 Boardman-Canfield Road, on the border of Canfield and Boardman with easy access to Route 11. Please join us! Students will be dancing, creating, and performing. In addition to performing works that are my choreography, they will be performing their own student works.

If you are "tuning in" as a YSU student or college grad returning to the area, the Advanced class is on Sundays from 1:00-2:30.

If you are a student from a studio and have never studied Modern Dance, my classes are a warm, friendly atmosphere, where everyone is welcome and here to learn. I would love to have you.

Brief History:
In the early 1900's Modern Dance began as a rebellion against the strict guidelines of the Ballet movement vocabulary. Some of the surrounding pictures are the early pioneers i.e. Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, etc. Each developed their own way of moving to best train the body to express what they wanted to dance about. Today, Modern Dance is an important influence in the Ballet and Dance worlds and required study for any aspiring dancer.

I look forward to seeing you.
Karen

*** If you have a child under the age of 8 that is interested in class, please e-mail me. I have had several requests and may open a class to younger children.
